Why Take Electrical Authorization Training?
Professionals working in an electrical environment or near live bare parts must be authorized, whether they are electricians or non-electricians. In accordance with the requirements of standard NF C 18-510, electrical authorization is essential for:
Performing electrical work (live or de-energized work) or non-electrical work in the presence of live bare parts
Entering an electrical room unsupervised
Ensuring the supervision of operations on electrical installations or structures
To be authorized, every worker must undergo electrical risk prevention training to acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills adapted to their activity and environment (voltage domain). VoltWork supports you in preparing your employees for electrical authorization training, a necessary step for issuing an authorization certificate.

FAQ – Electrical Authorization Training
Is Electrical Authorization Mandatory?
According to Article R. 4544-9 of the Labor Code, the employer must issue electrical authorization to employees working in the following situations:
Operations on electrical installations
Electrical or non-electrical interventions / work (such as cleaning, painting, etc.) near electrical installations
Accessing premises with a risk of electric shock, without the supervision of an authorized person
Furthermore, electrical authorization is required for operations on electrical power distribution structures such as high-voltage lines, in accordance with Decree No. 82-167 of February 16, 1982.
There is no minimum risk level defined by the standard or regulations for authorizing individuals, but it is important to consider the risks of short-circuit and electric shock in all cases. The risk of electric shock is present even at low voltage: for very low protective voltages (less than or equal to 12 V AC or 30 V DC) and very low safety voltages (less than or equal to 25 V AC or 60 V DC).
What is the Validity Period of an Electrical Authorization?
Standard NF C18-510, as well as INRS, recommend a 3-year refresher period for electrical authorization. Therefore, every employee must undergo refresher training for their electrical authorization before this deadline.
It is also recommended to conduct an annual assessment of the adequacy of an employee’s authorization level with regard to their activity.
The standard also specifies that authorization must be revised whenever necessary, depending on the evolution of the individual’s abilities, and particularly in case of:
change of function
transfer with change of hierarchical dependency
observed non-compliance with operational rules
medical restriction
significant modification of structures
evolution of work or intervention methods
To support you with renewal, Volt Work offers all its Electrical Authorization training courses as refreshers. These training programs are generally shorter.
How Does Electrical Authorization Training Take Place?
The program for electrical authorization prerequisite training will depend on the target levels. Nevertheless, all our courses follow the same structure: a theoretical part, practical training on electrical equipment, and a final evaluation.
During practical training, the following are notably covered:
Regulations, the principle of standard NF C 18-510, and authorization symbols
Voltage domains (ELV, LV, HV-A, HV-B) and electrical equipment
The dangers of electricity (short-circuit, arcing, direct contacts, indirect contacts) and the consequences on the human body
Means of preventing electrical risk (de-energizing and lockout, distancing measures, etc.)
How to react in case of an electrical accident or fire
Environmental zones (Zones 0 to 4) and approach distances (DMA, DLVR, DLVS, DLI)
Analysis of the environment in which one operates
The role of the various stakeholders involved (employer, head of establishment, operations manager, site or works manager, performers, etc.)
The practical training will be specific to each authorization level.
The final evaluation consists of a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) on theory and practical simulations to be performed.
At the end of these steps, we provide you with a post-training opinion and a pre-filled authorization certificate.
