The BR electrical authorization training is intended for General Intervention Officers: all professional electricians who are required to carry out fault detection, troubleshooting/maintenance, restoration to working order, partial and temporary commissioning on Low Voltage electrical installations.
At the end of the BR authorization training, the trainee will be able to perform electrical interventions by applying the safety prescriptions of standard NFC 18-510, including:
- Analyze risks and intervene near live bare parts
- Supervise an electrical worker during the intervention
- Lock out an electrical installation for their own account and for their worker
- Connect and disconnect conductors in the presence of voltage
- Perform tests, measurements, and verifications as part of the intervention
Objectives of the BR Electrical Authorization Training
- Ensure the direction and carry out fault detection, troubleshooting, replacement of electrical equipment, and connection interventions with voltage presence in LV and VLV, while respecting the prevention measures of standard NFC 18-510.
- Enable the employer to issue a BR electrical authorization certificate

FAQ BR Electrical Authorization Training
What are the Limits of BR Electrical Authorization?
The BR authorized general intervention officer can work alone or can have under their orders one (and only one!) B1 B1V authorized electrical worker. They can, for their own account and, if applicable, for their worker, carry out lockout operations without being BC authorized. Interventions are carried out de-energized, however, when it is not possible to connect, wire or disconnect de-energized, they can be performed in the presence of voltage on an open circuit within the limits defined by the standard: circuits protected by a rated current protection device ≤ 63A in alternating current and ≤ 32A in direct current, supply voltage ≤ 500 V in alternating current and ≤ 750V in direct current, copper cables with a cross-section less than or equal to 10 mm² (16mm² in aluminum).
I Need to Perform Interventions outside the BR Limits, What Authorization(S) should I Consider?
You will need to consider supplementing your BR authorization with B2 B2V and BC authorizations. B2V authorization – Work Supervisor will allow you to supervise electrical work by overseeing a team of more than one person. BC electrical authorization – Lockout Supervisor will allow you to lock out installations upstream of your team’s intervention. In case of intervention on a Low Voltage panel located in a room with High Voltage installations (HTA cells and transformer for example), the BR authorized person must have an H0 or H0V authorization (for reinforced proximity).
What Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is Recommended for BR Authorization?
For the general intervention officer, we recommend the PPE detailed below. However, it should be noted that it is not possible to define an exhaustive list without a precise vision of the types of installations and operations performed: insulated tools, insulating mat, insulating gloves, face shield, insulating sheet and clamps, voltage absence tester, jumper and corresponding lockout padlock, MALT/CC device, marking.
Does BR Electrical Authorization Allow Me to Work on Photovoltaic Installations?
Partially. Photovoltaic installations (direct current) present specific risks that require “installers to be well aware of them. You will therefore need to complete your BR training with the PV module to be” authorized BR PV – Photovoltaic Application Scope. This additional training takes place over one day of 7 hours.
