FAQ – BR Electrical Authorization Training

What Lockout Procedures Can be Performed with a BC Authorization?

The BC authorized lockout officer can intervene on 3 types of operations:

Single-step lockout: the lockout officer is responsible for all steps of the lockout procedure, namely: pre-identification, separation, isolation, identification of the installation, verification of absence of voltage, grounding and short-circuiting if necessary.

Two-step lockout: within the framework of this procedure, the lockout officer will work with the work supervisor on the different steps of the lockout. The lockout officer is responsible for the pre-identification, separation, and isolation phases. The work supervisor is responsible for the identification, verification of absence of voltage, grounding, and short-circuiting steps.

De-lockout: the re-energizing of the installation or structure occurs after receiving the work completion notice. The lockout officer must have received approval from the electrical operations manager before reclosing the isolated disconnecting device.

Does BC Authorization Allow Self-Lockout?

Self-lockout is permitted for:

BR authorized electricians (General Intervention Officer) for low voltage interventions

BE Test and/or B2V Test authorized test officers for their tests.

As soon as an installation needs to be locked out for third parties to work on it, BC authorization is required. The lockout officer can only perform lockout/de-lockout operations; all other electrical operations are prohibited for them.
